Course description
3D techniques is presently revolutionizing remote sensing of forest resources and forest values. This course provides an in-depth understanding of methods for generating and analyzing 3D data of forests generated by laser scanners as well as with automated digital photogrammetry. Topics covered include: fundamentals of laser scanning and digital photogrammetry; generation of 3D point clouds and digital surface models; feature extraction and estimation of forest variables. In addition will overviews of the status of remote sensing of forests in Norway, Sweden and Finland will be given.
